Camp Nelson Honor Guard is one of only three caisson honor guards in the United States. The other two, at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia and Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, receive funding directly from the military.
Camp Nelson Honor Guard is the only all volunteer equine platoon in the country. We are a 501(c)3 Non-Profit and your tax deductible gift will go directly to support the Guard’s ability to continue to provide on behalf of any veteran to be interred at Camp Nelson National Cemetery the full military honors earned by these heroic men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
Donations to the Camp Nelson Honor Guard are first applied to the continued care, upkeep, training, feeding, stabling and veterinary needs of the horses of the Guard. We are continuing our efforts to expand and improve our current barn and pasture area. And, those of you who have equipment, tack, blankets, halters or perhaps even a trailer you would consider donating please contact us. Our horse trailer has seen better days and we would be more than willing to come to your location to acquire a better, safer means of transportation for our beautiful horses.
Donations will also be used to maintain the 1880’s house that overlooks Camp Nelson National Cemetery and serves as the Guard’s headquarters. The building isn’t just office space for the honor guard. It also houses a library of military literature, serves as an Internet-connected location where families can connect via Skype to military members serving around the world, and acts as a help center for veterans with questions about benefits.
